No cloud streaming has been announced for Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar Games has not said the game will be playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming or PlayStation's cloud streaming, and neither console store lists it. Microsoft addressed streaming on Oct. 6, when Xbox's Matthew Ball wrote that GTA 6 "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."

What is listed is Remote Play. The PlayStation Store says GTA 6 supports it, which means streaming the game from a PS5 you own to another screen, such as a PlayStation Portal. That is not cloud streaming.

What Microsoft said

Matthew Ball, Xbox's chief strategy officer, posted on X at 10:59 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 6, after The Verge reported that Xbox held exclusive rights to stream GTA 6 at launch, including to PCs. Kotaku and VICE described that report; VICE says The Verge later corrected it.

Ball's post has two sentences. The first says the excitement for GTA 6 and Xbox "has also led to some misreporting." The second: "We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."

That rules out two things: exclusive streaming and streaming to PC. It does not say whether GTA 6 will stream through Xbox Cloud Gaming at all. Our news story has the full background.

Take-Two signed a new long-term Xbox publishing license with Microsoft on Sept. 28, according to an SEC filing. The filing does not mention GTA 6, Rockstar or streaming.

Xbox Cloud Gaming: not announced

Microsoft's cloud gaming page says Xbox Cloud Gaming comes with its Game Pass Essential, Premium and Ultimate plans, with monthly cloud playtime limits that vary by plan, and that members can "Stream select games you own or buy." Which games are available varies "over time, by region," Microsoft says.

Nothing announced puts GTA 6 among those games. The US Xbox Store listing names only "XBOX Series X|S" as the platform, with "Single player" and "Optimized for XBOX Series X|S" as its capabilities, and says nothing about cloud play. Neither Microsoft nor Rockstar has said whether GTA 6 will be streamable on any device, console or phone, at launch.

PlayStation cloud streaming: not announced

Sony's cloud streaming requires a PlayStation Plus Premium membership. It covers select games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, plus "Select games that you own," streamed to a PS5 or a PlayStation Portal. Sony says "only select titles are available to stream."

Sony and Rockstar have not said GTA 6 will be one of them. The PlayStation Store listing and PlayStation's GTA 6 page do not mention cloud streaming.

Remote Play: listed on the PlayStation Store

The PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as "Remote Play supported." Sony describes PS Remote Play as a way to stream PS4 and PS5 games from your own console to another device, and says "A PS4 or PS5 console is required." Supported devices include the PlayStation Portal, iPhone and iPad, Android phones and tablets, and Windows PCs and Macs.

Sony says Remote Play needs a broadband connection of at least 5 Mbps and recommends at least 15 Mbps. Remote Play is not cloud streaming: it runs from a PS5 you already own.

The Xbox Store listing does not mention an equivalent feature for GTA 6.

Older consoles

Streaming is not an announced way around the platform list. PlayStation says GTA 6 will not be available for PS4, no Xbox One version has been announced, and cloud play on any device is unannounced. Our platforms guide has the full list.

What is still unannounced

  • Xbox Cloud Gaming support, on any device
  • PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming
  • Any Game Pass or PlayStation Plus catalog plans for GTA 6
  • A PC version
