GTA 6 will not stream exclusively or to PC, Xbox's Matthew Ball says
After The Verge reported that Xbox held exclusive rights to stream GTA 6 at launch, Xbox's Matthew Ball said the game "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC." It still launches on Xbox Nov. 19.

Microsoft has denied a report that Xbox held exclusive rights to stream Grand Theft Auto VI at launch. Matthew Ball, Xbox's chief strategy officer, posted on X at 10:59 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 6 that GTA 6 "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."
In the same post he wrote, "We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19."
What The Verge reported
Earlier on Oct. 6, The Verge reported that Xbox held exclusive rights to stream GTA 6 at launch, including to PCs, according to Kotaku and VICE. Kotaku says the report cited an Xbox all-hands meeting at which Xbox head Asha Sharma teased the news to employees. VICE says The Verge later updated its story with a correction.
What Microsoft said
Ball's post covered three points:
- The date. GTA 6 launches on Xbox on Nov. 19.
- Streaming. The game "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."
- The report. He said the excitement "has also led to some misreporting."
Nov. 19 is the date Rockstar announced on Nov. 6, 2025, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Our release date guide traces how the date got there.
What is still unknown
Ball's post rules out two things: exclusive streaming and streaming to PC. It does not say whether GTA 6 will be on Xbox Cloud Gaming at all. Neither Microsoft nor Rockstar has said whether the game will be playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch, on any device. Our cloud streaming guide covers Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation's cloud streaming and Remote Play.
Rockstar has made no statement about streaming. When this story was published, its newest GTA 6 post on the Newswire was the Sept. 24 announcement of The Goodtime State: Vice City Collection, a collector's box. Its Oct. 8 post, on the game's radio stations, does not mention streaming either.
GTA 6 also has no announced PC version. Rockstar and Take-Two list it for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and Take-Two's Aug. 7 release lineup names PC for some of its other games but not for this one. Our guide Is GTA 6 on PC? has the details, and our platforms guide covers every system.
Take-Two's new Xbox license
On Sept. 30, Take-Two disclosed in an SEC filing that it had entered into "a new long-term XBOX Publisher License Agreement" with Microsoft on Sept. 28. The filing says the agreement gives Take-Two the right to develop, publish and sell Xbox products for all Xbox devices, and that it replaces earlier Xbox licensing deals. It does not mention GTA 6, Rockstar, streaming or exclusivity.
On the Xbox Store
The US Xbox Store listing now shows the game's ESRB rating, "MATURE 17+." Its "Single player" and "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" labels are unchanged, and so are its prices: $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Our ratings story covers the new ratings in every region we checked.
Update log
- Oct. 8, 2026: Only Kotaku, not VICE, says The Verge's report cited an Xbox all-hands meeting; we had credited both. The PC streaming answer now notes that the PlayStation Store lists Remote Play, which streams from your own PS5 to devices including Windows PCs. We also noted Rockstar's Oct. 8 Newswire post, which does not mention streaming.
Questions readers ask
- Is GTA 6 an Xbox streaming exclusive?
- No, according to Microsoft. Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball said on Oct. 6 that GTA 6 "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC." VICE says The Verge, which reported exclusive streaming rights, later corrected its story.
- Can you stream GTA 6 to a PC?
- Not through Microsoft: Ball wrote that the game will not stream to PC, and no PC version has been announced. Separately, the PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as supporting Remote Play, Sony's feature for streaming from a PS5 you own to devices including Windows PCs. That is not cloud streaming.
- Will GTA 6 be on Xbox Cloud Gaming?
- That has not been announced. Neither Microsoft nor Rockstar has said whether GTA 6 will be playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch, on any device.
- When does GTA 6 come out on Xbox?
- Nov. 19, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S, the same day as on PlayStation 5. Ball's post repeated the Nov. 19 date for Xbox.
